A gabion is a metal cage or box filled with stones or other general soil materials, often used as a retaining wall or other outdoor wall. Cages are most commonly made of stainless steel, galvanized, or powder coated wire mesh panels, which are then connected together with spiral adhesives or ring fasteners to form a rectangular shape.

Advantages:

Easy to install: No need for ground foundation.

Longevity: The main factor for longevity is the high permeability of gabions. Rainwater can eliminate accumulated static water pressure and reduce potential changes or distortions through the gaps between rocks. Meanwhile, the inherent strength of corrosion-resistant materials over time makes the foundation of gabion walls evergreen.

The quality of environment and sustainable development: If recycled concrete or rock is used for on-site construction, the cost can be greatly reduced.

Aesthetic characteristics: The gabion can coordinate with the natural environment.

Disadvantages:

Loose: Gabion walls, flower pots, etc. take up a lot of space and may not be suitable for a small garden.

The habitat of wild animals: Small animals can grow in the space between stones, which may have an impact in some spaces.

Special precautions: When selecting fillers for gabion retaining walls, it is important to ensure that the material is inside a sufficiently large cage (usually with a diameter of 3 inches or more).

Maintenance: There really is no maintenance.
